Cocktails under 'Tequila'

Parked Car Cocktail

The instantly loveable Parked Car makes a superb party drink. It is highly alcoholic, but also full of flavour with a slightly sweet tinge, making it really easy- perhaps a little too easy- to sip. Part of its appeal is its colour- a wonderfully dainty pink.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 30ml (1 oz) Campari
  • 30ml (1 oz) white tequila
  • 15ml (1/2 oz) Cointreau
  • White of one egg

EQUIPMENT:

  • Shaker
  • Strainer
  • Chilled Martini glass

MIXING METHOD:

Fill your shaker with ice and pour in all the ingredients. Shake vigorously for ten seconds to ensure that egg white has properly combined with everything else in the mix. Strain into the chilled Martini glass.

Margarita Cocktail

This is perhaps the most famous party cocktail of all, and probably the best tequila cocktail ever made. Appealing, fresh, and vibrant, the Margarita is perfectly balanced. The taste of the tequila is tempered by the other ingredients, so that the hit is not of alcohol, but of something much more delicious and complex. The effect is boosted by the salt on the rim of the glass, which reinforces the flavours of the cocktail as you sip, and takes away the sharpness of lime, leaving only a thirst-quenching citrus taste.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 30ml (1 oz) freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 15ml (1/2 oz) triple sec
  • 45ml (1 1/2 oz) white tequila
  • Slice of lime
  • Fine salt

EQUIPMENT:

  • Shaker
  • Strainer
  • Frosted Martini or Margarita glass
  • Saucer

MIXING METHOD:

First you need to “salt” the glass. Gently and evenly rub a thin slice of lime around the glass’s rim. Lightly roll the rim in a saucer of salt. Turn the glass upright and set aside to dry while you pour all the cocktail ingredients into an ice-filled shaker. Shake them well and strain into the glass. Although the salted rim is the main garnish, you can decorate with a twist of lime, too.
