Classic Dry Gin Martini

August 21st, 2007

This is possibly the most famous and sophisticated cocktail ever mixed. There are two important elements in mixing the perfect Dry Martini. First, the ingredients must be ice cold. The best way to achieve this is to stir them with ice a little longer than you might any other cocktail. Second, the ingredients must be as dry as possible.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 45ml (1 1/2 oz) London dry gin
  • 15ml (1/2 oz) dry vermouth

EQUIPMENT:

  • Stirring spoon
  • Strainer
  • Chilled Martini glass
  • Mixing glass

MIXING METHOD:

Fill the mixing glass with ice. Add the vermouth. Stir well and strain away the liquid, leaving only the flavoured ice. Pour in the gin, stir, and strain into to Martini glass; garnish by dropping in a green olive.
